Wow, what a Charity evening. With practically a “full house” at the Frome Memorial Theatre, anyone not fully converted to the “BIG BAND SOUND” prior to attending this event, must be a disciple now. Organised by Trowbridge resident Dennis Overton with the support of BCUSG’s Fund Raising Branch of Trowbridge, the evening went with a “swing”

Likened to James Last, who himself is on record as saying that the Mike Smith Orchestra is a “great band with a great sound”, Mike’s arrangements and orchestra ably backed by the Swing Sisters and Big Band Singer of the year, Mathew Ford (late of BBC at the Proms 2011) ensured an entertaining evening. With spontaneous audience participation we were entertained to hits ranging from Abba, The Beatles, Blues Brothers through to Sinatra, Film Themes, Pop Classics and West End Show hits, a fantastic repertoire, received with great acclaim.

One of the highlights of the evening was a brief interlude with a slight change of pace, when the young Irish Folk Dancing Group from Yetminster injected memories of Michael Flatley, an amazing and professional performance, which was really appreciated by the audience. The fund raising Trowbridge Branch of the Bath Cancer Unit, wish to thank all who supported us in this venture and with a retiring collection adding a further £253.00. to the sum raised, the Bath Cancer Unit received the wonderful sum of £2222.50, all of which will be put to very good use for its patients.
