Fund Raising Branch
Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (Trowbridge) HISTORY One of three (at the moment) formal fund raising committees in the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group area, formed with the sole purpose of assisting in raising funds for the benefit of cancer patients residing in the Royal United Hospital catchment area. Our inaugural meeting took place in April 1988 when Charles Thompson, the then Bath Cancer Unit Support Group Chairman, outlined the activities and aims of the Bath Group. A committee of ten was formed that very evening with our first meeting, taking place the following month on the 17th May at the Trowbridge Business Centre. Our present Chairman, Tino Polledri, a local business man, was involved in that initial formation and has in fact been in the "chair", since May of 1989, when he succeeded David Williams. Our Vice Chairperson, June Dallimore continued to serve in this capacity until she replaced our then Hon.Secretary, Gerry Day. In 1993 however, June, due to business and health commitments handed these duties on to our present Hon.Secretary, Jeanne Ingham-Law, who continues to this day in this key task. Basil Pursall, our Treasurer a long serving stalwart since 1989 relinquished this post, in early 2003 and handed these duties on to Carole Silver. Carole unfortunately moved to pastures new in 2005 when our ex Vice Chair, June Dallimore stepped into the breach and held the fort until January 2007 when Robin Davies took on the role. June a "long service medal holder of eighteen years" with the Trowbridge Branch has now decided to call it a day but will continue to help in any way possible. Fortunately Robin, her husband who also assists in our Fund Raising efforts, has decided to carry on for which we are grateful because not only is he the originator of our annual fund raising quiz, he has "green fingers" and supplies our stalls with many healthy plants which all adds to the funds. The committee, who number 10 or so in all, meet once a month, when finance, expenditure, events and planning etc are discussed. They would be delighted if you could assist them in any way, so do please make contact. Click here to return to top of page A Branch
